Finishing Up

The front though, will not be painted. Time to do some actual labour instead of getting the milling machine to do everything for me! I'm using a compound called Autosol to polish the aluminium.

First some wetsanding to smooth out the surface. I used 800, and then 1200 grit. And after three rounds of polishing it finally started to look shiny. Now I know this is not a mirror finish, but that's not what I'm going for. I've always thought a surface looks a lot better if it's a bit rough. Looks more... baddass and rugged than just a plain mirror.

Last thing on the agenda, the power button. Now, I usually design my own power switches for my cases but for this one I simply could not find an old button to build from, which is pretty odd considering I have a shed full of old cases! In any case, I had to buy one of those horrid Bulgin switches for an extortionate £30 (No that's not a typo).

And after some milling and filing, things were looking good. I also had to mill cut a big hole in the top panel: I did this using a mill-bit and a new spindle motor I bought for the CNC. After that it just bolted on. Honestly, I looks a lot better than I thought it would.
